The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), in collaboration with the Bangladeshi Mobile Training Team from the Bangladesh Peace Support Institute, has successfully graduated 250 personnel of its Quick Reaction Force One (QRF 1) following a rigorous six-week pre-deployment training program. The ceremony took place on 21 November 2025 at the Gambia Armed Forces Training School (GAFTS) in Fajara. The graduates are now fully prepared for deployment to UN peacekeeping missions and similar operations worldwide.
The program focused on critical decision-making, teamwork, and the practical application of UN protocols, equipping personnel with the knowledge and skills essential for high-tempo, multinational operations.
Colonel Shariah, head of the Bangladeshi Mobile Training Team, explained that the training covered the full spectrum of UN pre-deployment requirements. It combined specialized instructional materials, mission-specific courses, and realistic field exercises to assess operational readiness. He emphasized that the program is integral to the broader UN deployment framework, ensuring personnel meet globally recognised operational standards.
GAFTS Commandant, Major Abdoulie Secka, highlighted the success of the collaboration, noting that the six-week program blended UN core curriculum with practical exercises. He praised the QRF 1 contingent for their commitment and discipline and acknowledged the critical role of the Bangladeshi instructors in building interoperability and standardising operational procedures.
Delivering the keynote address, Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Mamat OA Cham described the collaboration as a landmark in GAF’s strategic partnership with the Bangladeshi Armed Forces, established in 2020. He noted that the training has equipped Gambian soldiers with vital skills in rules of engagement, civilian protection, human rights, and field operations, combining theoretical knowledge with practical drills for mission-ready preparedness.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates and tokens of appreciation to both instructors and graduates, underscoring GAF’s commitment to enhancing its capabilities and contributing effectively to global peacekeeping efforts.
