The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) continues to advance its operational capability and global profile under the leadership of Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS). In a decisive move to strengthen international defence cooperation, Air Marshal Aneke led a high-level NAF delegation on a strategic visit to two premier aviation institutions in Canada: The International Test Pilots School and the International Tactical Training Centre, both located in London, Ontario.
The visit was part of the NAF’s broader effort to adopt global best practices in training, technological integration and operational readiness. Key areas of engagement included fighter lead-in training, helicopter tactical operations, unmanned aerial systems (UAS) operator development, flight test training, technical support and collaborative research initiatives.
During the meetings, Air Marshal Aneke emphasised the importance of building enduring partnerships with internationally recognised institutions to accelerate the professional growth of NAF personnel. “The Nigerian Air Force remains resolute in its pursuit of operational excellence through strategic collaboration with globally recognised training institutions,” he said. “This visit reflects our deliberate effort to strengthen capacity development, enhance airpower effectiveness and ensure the sustained modernisation of our platforms and human capital.”
Discussions with host institutions also explored the overhaul and upgrade of NAF aircraft and the development of advanced flight simulator systems tailored to the Service’s evolving operational requirements. Representatives from the International Test Pilots School and the International Tactical Training Centre praised the NAF’s proactive approach to capability enhancement and expressed full readiness to support the Service’s transformation initiatives. They highlighted the mutual benefits of structured cooperation, particularly in specialised aviation training and technological integration which can foster both operational excellence and knowledge exchange.
