Modern battlefields continue to evolve rapidly placing increasing emphasis on mobility adaptability and mission-specific flexibility. Responding to these operational demands SVI Engineering has introduced the new MAX Recon 6×6 tactical vehicle a rapidly deployable platform designed for a wide range of combat and support missions.
Built on the proven Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series platform the MAX Recon combines rugged off-road capability with modular mission adaptability and enhanced battlefield protection. According to SVI the vehicle has been specifically engineered to allow rapid reconfiguration using basic hand tools and lifting equipment enabling operators to adapt the platform quickly to changing mission requirements.
The company’s established 6×6 conversion system forms the foundation of the MAX Recon’s enhanced mobility package. The upgrade significantly improves load-carrying capability while also delivering superior off-road performance across challenging terrain.
The vehicle features selectable drivetrain modes including 6×2 6×4 and full 6×6 engagement depending on operational requirements. A bogie suspension system further improves traction stability and articulation during cross-country movement while heavy-duty locally manufactured rear differential casings retain Toyota components to simplify maintenance and logistics support. A through-drive rear differential ensures efficient power distribution across all axles.
Protection remains a central feature of the MAX Recon. The platform is equipped with B6-level armour including protection for the roof engine bay and firewall. The split windscreen incorporates B6 ballistic glass with each section capable of folding flat when required. A dedicated forward weapon mount positioned at the co-driver’s station allows direct frontal engagement enhancing close-combat capability.
The roof structure incorporates a turret mounting interface while each door aperture includes a weapon mount and composite half-door system with quick-release hinges for rapid removal. Depending on mission requirements the vehicle can either be fitted with lightweight canvas coverings for lower-threat operations or fully armoured doors for increased protection.
SVI has also focused heavily on operational versatility with the MAX Recon supporting multiple combat and support configurations. Current variants include a reconnaissance platform a ZU-23 autocannon system developed in partnership with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research a 14.5 mm anti-aircraft system Scorpion automated mortar systems in both 60 mm and 81 mm calibres a 107 mm rocket launcher system and a dedicated drone operations base.
The platform can additionally integrate communication systems command and control equipment electronic jamming systems and broader electronic warfare suites making it suitable for both conventional and asymmetric operational environments.
Founded in 2004 SVI Engineering has established itself as a specialist in armouring solutions mechanical engineering and rapid product development. The company operates with ISO 9001:2015 certification through TÜV Rheinland and holds a Level 2 B-BBEE certification.
With increasing global demand for highly mobile modular tactical vehicles the MAX Recon positions SVI to compete in a growing market segment where battlefield flexibility and rapid deployment capability are becoming increasingly critical.
