Kenya is moving forward with plans to launch a National Maritime Information Sharing Centre (NMISC) as a central platform for gathering, analysing and distributing maritime security data, enabling more effective real-time monitoring of piracy, illegal fishing, trafficking and marine pollution.

A Roadmap Formulation Workshop held in Mombasa from 28–31 July 2025 brought together 15 representatives from key government agencies for coordinated planning under the Djibouti Code of Conduct and Jeddah Amendment, with support from the IMO, the Kenyan Maritime Authority and technical input from the Government of India.
Funded by the EU’s Safe Seas for Africa programme, the €1 million, 36-month initiative also targets Tanzania and Mauritius. Once operational, the NMISC will strengthen regional security by improving inter-agency coordination and enhancing maritime domain awareness.
