The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Angie Motshekga, accompanied by Deputy Minister Maj Gen (Ret) Bantubonke Holomisa, visited Denel Landward Systems in Lyttelton on 13 November 2025 to review progress in South Africa’s defence manufacturing capabilities.
Denel Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tsepo Monaheng, welcomed the Minister and provided an overview of the Landward Systems division. During guided tours, Minister Motshekga viewed combat vehicles and ammunition, gaining insight into the technologies that support the South African National Defence Force’s operational readiness.
Speaking during the visit, Minister Motshekga emphasised the defence industry’s role in economic growth and employment:
“The defence sector holds immense potential to create jobs, nurture technical skills, and support innovation. By investing in local capabilities such as those demonstrated here at Denel, we are not only strengthening national security but also contributing meaningfully to South Africa’s broader socio-economic development.”
