Diplomats from the Russia Embassy to the Republic of South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho conducted a working visit to Maseru on 5-6 May 2026 aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding engagement across several sectors.
During the visit the delegation met with Tebogo Rakoloi, Director of the relevant Territorial Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of Lesotho; Thapeli Tjabane, Acting Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation and Director-General: ICT; Adv Borotho Matsoso, National Commissioner of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service and Dr Lelingoana Lerotoli, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs a range of bilateral and international agenda items were discussed. The Lesotho side received invitations to several high-level events scheduled to take place in Russia later this year including the Third Russia-Africa Summit. Both sides also agreed to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Discussions with the Ministry of Information delegation focused on sharing expertise in e-government implementation and establishing closer bilateral cooperation in the ICT sector.
The Russian delegation and the Lesotho Mounted Police Service reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong cooperation particularly in the training of police personnel in Russia. The parties agreed to continue close collaboration on law enforcement matters.
During the meeting with the leadership of Limkokwing University both sides agreed to share information on opportunities for students to enrol in programmes offered by Russian educational institutions while also intensifying inter-university cooperation and student exchange initiatives.
