Sweden is boosting its naval punch with an order for 22 additional CB90 Next Generation combat boats from Saab — reinforcing the nation’s fast-response coastal defence capability.
Valued at around SEK 900 million, the contract will see the agile, high-speed CB90 fleet grow to meet the demands of modern coastal and archipelago warfare — where speed, flexibility, and troop mobility are essential.

Built at Saab’s Docksta shipyard, the CB90 NG is prized for its lightweight all-aluminium hull, CBRN protection, ballistic defence features, and powerful weapons platform. Its stabilised weapon stations, missile integration options, and reinforced bow ramp make it ready for rapid troop deployment on unprepared beaches.
Beyond combat, the CB90’s design has proven versatile — doubling as a marine police boat, search and rescue craft, pilot vessel, and more.
“This order is a significant addition to Sweden’s naval capabilities,” says Mats Wicksell, head of Saab Kockums. “We’re proud our combat boats continue to strengthen Sweden’s defence.”
Deliveries will roll out over the next few years, ensuring the Swedish Navy stays ready to respond swiftly in the Baltic and beyond.
