On 18 September 2025, the South African Army proudly hosted the 2025 Military Skills Development System (MSDS) Pass Out Parade at the “Home of the Griffins,” 3 South African Infantry Battalion in Kimberley.
Over 1,600 recruits successfully completed their six-month basic military training, demonstrating excellence in Basic Military Training, Platoon Weapons, and individual performance. Family, friends, and the local community gathered to celebrate this historic milestone, marking the transformation of civilians into disciplined military men and women.
The parade was officiated by Lieutenant General L.K. Mbatha, Chief of the South African Army, supported by Brigadier General A.D. Steenkamp, Brigade Commander, and Chief Warrant Officer C. Motlaloe, Brigade Warrant Officer. The Chief of the Army issued a stern reminder of the importance of the military in society and thanked Colonel T. Ngwane, Officer Commanding of 3 South African Infantry Battalion, along with the instructors who guided the recruits throughout their training.
The 2025 pass out parade will be remembered for its strong community support, particularly from the local Diamond City residents, whose presence highlighted the shared pride in the achievements of South Africa’s newest soldiers.
