Global tactical flashlight manufacturer Nextorch has announced a major five-year investment in its local operations, Nextorch Africa, reinforcing its commitment to South Africa’s rapidly growing private security industry. The investment, delivered through support, equipment, stock, and capital, reflects growing confidence in the sector, which continues to expand due to persistent security challenges and increasing demand for professional protection services.
“Tactical lighting is an often-overlooked component of security, yet it is essential for security officers, law enforcement, and anti-poaching units,” said Werner van der Westhuizen, Director at Nextorch Africa and former private military contractor. “Affordability is often a key barrier for these groups. This investment enables us to expand our footprint and offer quality products at lower price points across South Africa.”
South Africa hosts the largest private security industry in the world, with more than 15,000 registered security companies and roughly 2.7 million private security officers, according to the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA). Over the past decade, the number of security businesses grew by 43%, reflecting the country’s ongoing need for robust protection solutions.
Nextorch Africa supplies tactical lighting and military-grade equipment to over 100 private security companies, including Fidelity ADT and Bidvest Protea Coin, as well as the Tshwane Metro Police and various anti-poaching units. The company also provides sponsorships and equipment to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Community Policing Forums, ensuring operational readiness for frontline personnel.
“The private security sector plays a critical role in supporting law enforcement and keeping communities safe,” said van der Westhuizen. “With a national presence, we can stock our full range and provide demonstrations anywhere in the country, helping security teams perform their duties more effectively.”
Globally, Nextorch products are used by over 2.4 million police officers in China and are supplied to more than 150 countries, underscoring the brand’s reputation for reliability and performance.
The investment from Nextorch HQ also lays the foundation for expansion into the rest of Africa, making premium tactical equipment available across the continent. To celebrate the investment, Nextorch Africa is offering private security professionals a free torch to test in the field and add to their operational tool kit.
“For us, it’s about empowering security professionals with the best equipment for the job, keeping them and the public safe,” van der Westhuizen said.
With this strategic investment, Nextorch Africa strengthens South Africa’s security ecosystem, enhancing operational capability and supporting the growing demand for professional protection services.
