On Wednesday, 22 October 2025, Brigadier General Emmanuel Thembinkosi Mokoena officially assumed command of the South African Air Force (SAAF) Command Post Unit during an Acceptance of Command Parade at Air Force Base Waterkloof. The conferring of powers was conducted by the General Officer Commanding Air Command, Major General Sipiwo Dlomo, marking both a continuation of leadership and the start of a new chapter for the Command Post Operational Unit.
The parade celebrated the legacy of service within the SAAF while reaffirming the Air Force’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the airspace of the Republic of South Africa. Chaplain Fundiswa Veronica Mnyanda, from the Infantry Formation Headquarters, invoked the words of Exodus 33:14-16, urging both Major General Dlomo and Brigadier General Mokoena to seek and dwell in the presence of God, emphasizing trust and guidance during times of change. “Put your trust in Him for everything and let the presence of God be a warm blanket that covers you,” Chaplain Mnyanda said.
Major General Dlomo highlighted Brigadier General Mokoena’s key responsibilities, which include coordinating, monitoring, and controlling all air power capabilities to ensure force readiness in support of the SAAF’s mission and the Chief of the Air Force’s intent. He further commended the dedication of the men and women of the Air Force Command Post, whose professionalism ensures the SAAF remains fully operational at all times.
The ceremony also honoured previous commanders of the Command Post, including Brigadier Generals King, Gibson, Lombard, Kriegler, and Church, acknowledging their contributions to the unit’s legacy of excellence.
“Turn doubts into dreams, fears into successes, and continue to motivate, communicate, encourage and nurture the culture of the South African Air Force to all members assigned under your command,” Major General Dlomo concluded, highlighting the trust and expectations placed on Brigadier General Mokoena as he begins his tenure.
