The Turkish Ambassador to Zambia, His Excellency Hüseyin Barbaros Dicle, led a delegation from Türkiye’s ASELSAN Defence Electronics on a courtesy call to the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Commander, Lieutenant General Oscar Msitu Nyoni, at Zambia Air Force Headquarters.
Lt Gen Nyoni said the visit presented an important opportunity to strengthen defence cooperation between Zambia and Türkiye, particularly in the areas of air defence, surveillance and secure communications and technological capacity building.
“The Zambia Air Force is on a deliberate path of modernisation and capacity enhancement to effectively meet contemporary and future security challenges,” Lt Gen Nyoni said.
He added that the engagement marked a significant step in strengthening ZAF capabilities and fostering long-term strategic partnerships anchored on technology transfer, training and sustainability.
Ambassador Dicle expressed appreciation to the ZAF Command for hosting the delegation and underscored that ASELSAN Defence Electronics is among Türkiye’s leading defence companies. He noted that Zambia and Türkiye share strong potential for cooperation in defence matters and reaffirmed Türkiye’s position as a reliable partner to Zambia.
Meanwhile, ASELSAN Defence Electronics Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Manager, Ms Huriye Memis, highlighted that the company is a leading defence solutions provider to the Turkish Air Force and possesses the capability to deliver tailored solutions aligned with the specific operational requirements of the Zambia Air Force.
The visit concluded with an advanced air defence workshop for ZAF personnel facilitated by experts from ASELSAN Defence Electronics.
The Turkish Ambassador was accompanied by the Deputy Ambassador Ms Betul Akbal.
