The highly trained elite unit of the South African Police Service, the Special Task Force (STF), was a showstopper at this year’s Rand Easter Show, drawing crowds of all ages to its outdoor display. Patrons were captivated as they got up close to high-precision weaponry and the STF’s latest operational equipment.
A highlight of the display was the STF’s New Generation Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), also known as the “New Generation Nyala.” This advanced vehicle, designed for high-risk operational environments, drew significant attention from visitors eager to see the improvements over the previous generation. The APC accommodates more operators, handles extreme rough terrain with ease and provides maximum protection against a wide range of threats. It is used in high-stakes operations such as hostage rescues, intense illegal mining crackdowns, kidnappings and other critical missions.
The STF’s reputation for excellence was further reinforced by its recent international performance. Earlier this year, the decorated unit competed in the 7th edition of the United Arab Emirates Swat Challenge 2026 held in Dubai. Representing Africa for the fifth consecutive year since 2022, the team consistently ranked among the top performers, showcasing the skill, precision and professionalism of South Africa’s premier tactical unit.
The Rand Show appearance not only allowed the public to engage with the STF and its cutting-edge equipment but also highlighted the unit’s ongoing commitment to operational readiness, innovation and excellence in law enforcement.
