The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gqeberha has intensified its crime-fighting efforts through Operation Prosper, delivering significant operational successes within the Nelson Mandela Bay District.
A multi-disciplinary compliance operation was conducted on 16 April 2026 in the Korsten Business Area bringing together SAPS, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), the South African Air Force, Traffic Services, Metro Police and the Border Management Authority. The coordinated approach highlighted strengthened inter-agency cooperation aimed at improving public safety and enforcing compliance across key urban areas.
The operation focused on compliance inspections at second-hand goods dealers to identify suspected stolen property, execution of search warrants at identified drug-related premises and enforcement of municipal by-laws. Additional activity included vehicle checkpoints, stop-and-search operations and the arrest of undocumented persons. SANDF drone support provided aerial surveillance which significantly enhanced situational awareness and operational effectiveness.
Authorities reported a range of successful outcomes during the operation. A total of 21 undocumented persons were arrested while enquiries were opened into suspected stolen property including electronic devices and accessories valued at approximately R10 000. Additional recovered goods including laptops, televisions and cellphones valued at approximately R50 000 were also confiscated bringing the total value of seized property to over R96 000.

An undisclosed amount of cash suspected to be linked to criminal activity was confiscated pending further investigation. In a separate enforcement action an enquiry was registered following the discovery of drugs at a suspected drug post including mandrax tablets, crystal meth and cocaine with an estimated value of R7 000.
Further enforcement actions resulted in the seizure of counterfeit clothing valued at approximately R675 000. Authorities also issued by-law fines totalling R5 400 and traffic fines amounting to R13 300.
Community stakeholders including the Ward Councillor for Schauderville Councillor Gelderbloem together with members of the Korsten business community welcomed the visible policing presence and enforcement action noting the positive impact on local safety and order.
The Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner Brigadier Loyiso Ngalo commended all participating agencies for their coordination discipline and continued commitment to ensuring safer communities.
SAPS confirmed its ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order and encouraged continued cooperation between communities and law enforcement through the reporting of criminal activity.
