The Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Prestige Week officially began on 7 October 2025 with a spectacular 17-gun salute and a dramatic paratrooper display in honour of Gen Rudzani Maphwanya, Chief of the SANDF.

The ceremony, held with precision and ceremony, set a tone of dignity and pride for the week-long celebration. The salute served as a mark of respect for the SANDF Commander’s leadership and highlighted the unity and professionalism of the Defence Force.
Prestige Week is not only a ceremonial event but also a platform for fostering camaraderie across the armed services. It includes a variety of sporting competitions, cultural activities, and inter-service challenges, bringing together personnel from all branches and divisions.
The opening display, with paratroopers gracefully descending in formation and the reverberation of ceremonial artillery, symbolised both honour for the nation’s leaders and the commitment of SANDF members to excellence in service.
Prestige Week 2025 promises a vibrant mix of tradition, competition, and teamwork, reinforcing the values and spirit that underpin South Africa’s armed forces.
