NVL Egypt has begun production of ten PV43-M patrol vessels for the Egyptian Navy, marking a major milestone in the country’s naval modernisation and shipbuilding capability.
The programme follows the establishment of Naval Vessels Lürssen Egypt (NVL Egypt), a joint venture between NVL Group, Abou Quir Ports Construction & Management Company (APCM) and Magnom Industries. Production started on schedule in September 2025, with all vessels being built entirely in Egypt in cooperation with Alexandria Shipyard and with technical support from NVL Group in Germany.
The 43-metre, 270-ton PV43-M is designed for maritime surveillance, coastal defence and law enforcement missions. Based on the Croatian OOB-31 class, it can exceed 28 knots and carry a 30 mm main gun, 12.7 mm machine guns and optional anti-ship missiles.
In November 2024, NVL Egypt selected Safran to provide VIGY 4 optronic sights and Argonyx navigation systems for the vessels.
“This programme represents a strategic milestone in strengthening Egypt’s naval forces,” NVL Egypt said. “It will also boost Egypt’s naval industry through technology transfer and localised expertise.”
NVL has previously delivered nine 40-metre patrol boats and a 60-metre coastal defence craft to Egypt, and continues to collaborate on new designs such as the CC-60 Compact Combatant unveiled at EDEX 2021.
“Our role goes beyond shipbuilding,” said Tim Wagner, CEO of NVL Group. “We aim to ensure long-term readiness through maintenance, training and technical support while paving the way for future international projects.”
