SAAB South Africa commemorated Mandela Day 2025 with a special outreach event hosted at Axis Aviation, Lanseria International Airport, bringing together the aviation community for a meaningful day of giving back. In the spirit of Nelson Mandela’s legacy of service, the event focused on uplifting young people through exposure to aviation while supporting local charities.
Organised in collaboration with Axis Aviation and Lanseria International Airport the Mandela Day gathering saw SAAB staff, engineers and aviation professionals spend their 67 minutes engaging in activities ranging from mentorship sessions with aviation students to supporting community upliftment projects. The initiative highlighted SAAB’s continued commitment to making a positive social impact alongside its role as a key player in the South African defence and aerospace sector.

Attendees included young aspiring aviators, engineers and many more from local schools and outreach programmes, who were treated to aircraft walk-arounds, inspirational talks by industry veterans, and demonstrations by SAAB and Axis Aviation teams. The event not only showcased the exciting world of aviation but also reinforced the importance of education, mentorship, and opportunity creation within the industry.
Representatives from SAAB underlined the importance of celebrating Mandela Day with action, using the aviation platform to inspire the next generation while strengthening ties within the community.
Axis Aviation’s participation in hosting the event at their modern facilities at Lanseria International Airport also reflected the growing role of general aviation companies in community outreach and corporate social responsibility.

As Nelson Mandela once said, “It is in your hands to make a difference.” SAAB’s Mandela Day at Axis Aviation served as a reminder of the power of the aviation industry to not only connect the skies but also uplift communities on the ground.
