Turkish Aerospace has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium of Spanish industrial companies led by Airbus, marking a significant step forward in Spain’s “Advanced Jet Trainer Aircraft, Integrated Training System – Combat (ITS-C)” programme. This initiative aims to replace the Spanish Air and Space Force’s aging fleet of F-5M training aircraft with modern, high-performance trainers.
The MoU was formalised during the recent FEINDEF exhibition in Madrid, Spain, where the parties convened to identify and develop opportunities for cooperation. The agreement seeks to integrate the indigenously developed HÜRJET Advanced Jet Trainer into Spain’s future integrated training system while strengthening Spain’s defense industrial base and deepening defense ties between Türkiye and Spain.
This collaboration will leverage Airbus’s renowned expertise in aircraft design, manufacturing, support services, and pilot training, combined with Turkish Aerospace’s innovative design of the HÜRJET — a twin-seat, single-engine supersonic advanced jet trainer featuring state-of-the-art avionics and systems.
The MoU builds upon a previous agreement between Turkish Aerospace and Airbus, expanding the partnership to include key Spanish industrial partners. By including the HÜRJET in Spain’s integrated training solution, the agreement aims to address the operational requirements of the Spanish Air and Space Force for a modern, efficient, and capable training aircraft.
HÜRJET: A New Era in Advanced Jet Training
Developed entirely by Turkish Aerospace engineers, the HÜRJET is designed to prepare pilots for the demanding environment of 5th generation fighter aircraft. Capable of supersonic speeds up to Mach 1.4, it features an advanced Human-Machine Interface (HMI) that minimizes pilots’ transition time to next-generation fighters. Its sophisticated Embedded Training System and Ground-Based Training Systems — collectively known as the HÜRJET Training 360 System — form a connected training architecture that significantly enhances pilot training efficiency and mission readiness.
The HÜRJET’s smart single-engine configuration offers reduced fuel consumption, simplified maintenance, and lower lifecycle costs, making it a cost-effective and sustainable solution for modern air forces.
Turkish Aerospace: Türkiye’s Leading Aerospace Powerhouse
Turkish Aerospace continues to play a leading role in Türkiye’s defense and aerospace sector, with capabilities spanning the design, development, modernization, production, integration, and lifecycle support of fixed and rotary-wing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and space systems. Operating across 4 million square meters of open and 710,000 square meters of enclosed facilities, and employing more than 16,000 personnel, Turkish Aerospace stands as Türkiye’s premier technology center and a key global player in the aerospace and defense industries.
This latest MoU signals a new chapter of collaboration between Türkiye and Spain, with the potential to deliver cutting-edge training capabilities to the Spanish Air and Space Force and contribute to the continued modernization of Europe’s air forces.
