Speaking on behalf of Marine Corps Commandant Captain (Navy) Olavi Twamoneni Shipunda, Battalion Commander Commander Twakulilwa Natangwe Hekandjo reflected on the unit’s founding in 2016, calling it the realization of a vision to create a capable, disciplined, and professional amphibious force to protect Namibia’s maritime interests and contribute to regional peace.
Commander Hekandjo urged Marines to uphold discipline and avoid alcohol and drug abuse, stressing that professionalism remains the backbone of the force.
He also thanked the Brazilian Marine Technical Team (BRAZMATT) for their ongoing role in strengthening the Marine Corps’ operational capabilities.
The Namibian Marine Corps was officially commissioned on 22 July 2016 by the late President Dr Hage G. Geingob as part of the Namibian Navy’s expansion into amphibious warfare.
