General Atomics AeroTec Systems (GA-ATS) is set to place a major strategic focus on the African continent with its upcoming participation in the Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) 2026 Expo, scheduled to take place at Air Force Base Waterkloof from 16 to 20 September 2026. Exhibiting in Hangar 1 at Booth 1CW6, the German aircraft manufacturer will present its next-generation Do228 NXT twin-turboprop to regional defence delegations, civil authorities and commercial operators.
The presentation at AAD 2026 will form part of a high-profile, dual-show African tour commencing just a week prior at the El Alamein International Airshow in Egypt (8–10 September), where the Do228 NXT Demonstrator will make its first static display appearance outside Europe following showcases at ILA Berlin and the Farnborough International Airshow.
Africa represents a key future market with substantial operational synergy for the platform. The legacy Dornier 228 already holds an established track record across the continent, serving more than 30 operators in nearly 20 countries. Its reputation for short take-off and landing (STOL) capability, rugged unpaved airstrip performance and reliable operation under harsh environmental conditions provides a proven baseline for the modernised Do228 NXT.
Engineered to meet evolving African operational requirements, the Do228 NXT will offer operators a flexible, multi-role utility and special missions aircraft. The platform features rapid cabin reconfigurability, enabling transitions between territorial and maritime border surveillance, search and rescue (SAR), medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), aerial reconnaissance and passenger or cargo transport.
GA-ATS’s upcoming presence at AFB Waterkloof will highlight its ongoing commitment to supporting African air mobility and special mission capabilities with a modernised, reliable turboprop platform built for demanding operational environments.
