Saab has received a new order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) covering the final phase of production as well as additional material and services for the two previously ordered Blekinge-class (A26) submarines. The contract is valued at approximately SEK 9.6 billion with the majority of deliveries scheduled between 2026 and 2032.
Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, commented: “Saab is currently building the world’s most advanced conventional submarines for Sweden. Following excellent cooperation between Saab and FMV we have ensured that Sweden has a state-of-the-art underwater capability which will contribute to keeping our nation’s waters safe for decades to come.”
The A26 platform represents a significant leap in Sweden’s underwater warfare capabilities. Designed for stealth, endurance and flexibility the submarines are equipped to operate in both shallow and deep waters while maintaining a low acoustic signature. The addition of this order ensures the Swedish Navy will continue to field one of the most modern conventional submarine forces in the world supporting national defence and regional security objectives in the Baltic Sea.
