Through its Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), Singapore will develop and test the innovative system alongside Airbus’ Flexrotor uncrewed aerial system (UAS). The aim: to boost situational awareness, extend mission reach, and deliver a decisive edge in complex operations.
“Combining manned platforms with autonomous systems is a true force multiplier,” said Mr Ng Chad-Son, Chief Executive of DSTA. “This collaboration with Airbus allows us to unlock new possibilities in helicopter-drone integration.”
Airbus Helicopters CEO Bruno Even called the agreement “a revolution” in mission effectiveness, highlighting how the proven H225M’s capabilities — from challenging night-time search and rescue to operations in rough conditions — will be amplified by real-time drone support.
Central to the effort is HTeaming, Airbus’ new modular system that allows helicopter crews to fully control a Flexrotor UAS from the cockpit. The setup includes antennas, a modem, a tablet and advanced software — enabling live collaboration between manned and unmanned assets.
The upcoming flight demonstration will showcase how crewed-uncrewed synergy can enhance tactical flexibility for missions ranging from defence to search and rescue.
By pioneering this new integration, Singapore and Airbus are positioning themselves at the forefront of next-generation helicopter-drone operations — and setting a powerful precedent for future air power.
