In a game-changing announcement at the 2025 Paris Air Show, Raytheon (an RTX business), Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, and the Norwegian Ministry of Defence revealed the GhostEye® radar—an advanced new sensor system set to supercharge the global NASAMS® air defence platform.

This is the first official project under the trilateral NASAMS collaborative agreement signed in 2023, marking a milestone in medium-range air defence innovation. GhostEye leverages active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar and gallium nitride (GaN) components to deliver unmatched detection, tracking, and targeting across a full 360 degrees—empowering it to counter drones, cruise missiles, and fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft with next-level precision.
“GhostEye can be deployed on a variety of vehicles, allowing superior flexibility across any operational environment,” said Tom Laliberty, President of Raytheon Land and Air Defense Systems.
Though engineered primarily in the United States, two major subassemblies will be co-developed by Kongsberg in Norway—demonstrating deep industrial collaboration. The radar’s launch also extends the Raytheon-Kongsberg teaming agreement by a decade, reinforcing a 30-year global defence partnership.
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace President Eirik Lie noted that GhostEye represents a quantum leap in NASAMS’ performance: “This radar ensures NASAMS retains its edge as the world’s premier medium-range air defence system.” Already a linchpin of Norway’s national security and proven in Ukraine, NASAMS’ value continues to grow. GhostEye’s introduction future-proofs the platform, securing it for the conflicts and coalitions of tomorrow.
